We think this is such a clever DIY use for vanilla extract and it smells AMAZING! A new favorite recipe of ours using ingredients you might already have on hand; this body scrub will be an excellent addition to use while taking a shower or even just when you wash your hands. This scrub leaves your skin smooth, hydrated, and smelling like a hint of vanilla cookie dough.

It’s also the perfect gift idea for the holidays alongside our vanilla body lotion recipe. You can add your own personal touches to it to really make it a one-of-a-kind present!

What’s also neat about this recipe is that it’s a great base for some other bath scrubs scents like peppermint, almond, and fiori di sicilia which you can find the recommended measurements at the bottom of this recipe.

Directions
  1. Measure out all ingredients and set aside.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl, melt coconut oil in the microwave until completely liquid
  3. Combine both oils and mix together
  4. Add sugar and Rodelle Pure Vanilla Extract and mix until combined
  5. Place in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to help the coconut oil re-solidify
  6. Mix thoroughly and store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready for use
  7. When ready to use, let sit on the counter for ~20 minutes to make it easier to apply

Important Notes:

  • Before use, please ensure to apply a small amount to an inconspicuous area prior to use as a patch test.
  • This body scrub might not be ideal for those with sensitive skin types, as vanilla can be irritating to the skin for some. We do not recommend using this scrub on any sensitive areas of your body.
  • Please rinse and wash thoroughly after the scrub to prevent lingering oil on the skin, which can lead to accelerated sunburn on exposed skin.
  • You can use coarse salt in place of sugar. We’ve noticed there is less of a vanilla smell however so keep that in mind (we still smelled the same amount of the other extracts and did not experience scent reduction with the alternative extracts).
  • From our experience, if you use olive oil, it might leave an additional olive oil scent to the scrub. It’s not bad but it is noticeable.
  • We recommend storing this scrub in an airtight container in the fridge. It should last up to a month in colder conditions. If you were to keep out at room temp it will most likely melt down with the sugar added and there is the potential for the scrub to go out of date more quickly.

You can try out this scrub using our other extracts using the following measurements:

Fiori di Sicilia  1 tablespoon
Peppermint  1 teaspoon
Almond  1 teaspoon
